
Benjamin Aneff
Benjamin Aneff is currently the Assistant Conductor of the North Penn Symphony,
and Music Director of the New Horizons Program and Third Street Music School
in New York City. His duties at North Penn include conducting the Family,
Holiday, and Pops concerts, working with and leading concerto competition
winners in their performances, and preparing the orchestra for all subscription
concerts.
Interested in a wide variety of music, Mr. Aneff has conducted works from a
large spectrum of composers. This past year has seen him lead the North Penn
Symphony in performances of works by composers such as Shostakovich,
Mendelssohn, Delius and Faure. Additionally, he has prepared the orchestra
for large scale works including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Mahler’s Symphony
No. 1, and Copland’s Third Symphony.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Aneff was completing a Masters in
Conducting at Ithaca College. While Music Director of the Ithaca College
Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, Mr. Aneff led works by composers such as
Takamitsu and Messaien, and collaborated with Pulitzer Prize winning
composers Karel Husa and Michael Colgrass on performances of their music.
His time at Ithaca also saw him conduct symphonies by Beethoven and
Shostakovich, and lead solo works by such varied composers as Schumann,
Villa-Lobos, Vivaldi, and Benjamin Britten. As an accomplished horn player,
Mr. Aneff performed with numerous orchestras, as well as at music festivals
in Aspen and Las Vegas, working with conductors such as James Conlon, Allan
Gilbert, and David Zinman. A New York resident and Texas Native, he has
studied conducting with Jeffrey Grogan, Gary Lewis, Kenneth Kiesler,
Gustav Meier, and Daniel Lewis.
